Features: 3 out of 5
Mailigen offers regular email marketing features including API, Calendar of events, Google Analytics Integration, List Segmentation etc. You can view their complete list of features on our home page. Online Survey feature is included and they can be sent out just like other messages to your list. Facebook and Twitter sharing is also available with your messages.
Online sign up forms can be created using your own images with font and color customization. There are no fancy templates available, however you can upload your own images.
Recently, Mailigen started offering mobile marketing which includes the ability to send text messages to over 200 countries with detailed reports. This opens up new opportunities for email marketers since most of the world own mobile phones. Sign up forms can be integrated to get the permission of the recipients to send text messages or SMS.
Mailigen's Survey Editor
Price: 3 out of 5
Mailigen pricing is similar to other email marketing software providers. There is also a pay-as-you-go option available. There are discounts available if you pay for 6 months or annual subscription in advance. However they do charge an additional $10 if you want to edit the footer and remove Mailigen logo. The extra price also includes full reporting data, export and additional email addresses to access your account. To get additional image storage space, you need to pay an extra $5.
You can send unlimited messages and the pricing is based on the number of subscribers.
Deliverability : 3 out of 5
Mailigen’s deliverability is medium to high, which is satisfactory. This score determines the chances of your email landing into the inbox vs. the spam folder.

Newsletter Creation: 3 out of 5
Mailigen offers HTML/Plain Text editor to create your newsletters and messages. You can use one of their templates (just over 30 of them) or your own. Drag and drop editor is not available which will make it a little difficult for average users to customize their messages. However if you’re comfortable with HTML editing, you wouldn’t have a problem using it. You can also use their spam check feature while creating your message in order to get an idea about how well your message will be received by ISPs’ spam filters. The spam check is connected with SpamAssassin (open source spam filter).
Ease of Use: 4 out of 5
Mailigen’s interface is easy to use and we didn’t have any problems figuring out how their system works.
Support: 3 out of 5
There is an FAQ available in their Support section and also a downloadable user guide. There are some video tutorials available also. You can also contact them for a training session in order to learn how to use their system. Live chat and phone support is offered during weekdays while email support is available 7 days a week round the clock.

There is no drag and drop email editor available. Most email marketing industry leaders are moving towards integrating drag and drop editors, so Mailigen will most likely follow suit. Email archives, video emails are a couple of features that would be good to have but missing. A workaround to show a video in your email is to insert an image of your video and link to it on your own. There are a limited number of email templates which should suffice, but it would be better to see more variety. Templates for sign up forms are not available, but you can customize them yourself.
PROS:
Mailigen will fulfill the needs of a basic email marketer. It does offer all the basic features needed like autoresponders, online surveys and tracking. SMS marketing is a bonus feature that most other email marketing software do not offer, so this could be the single most important reason for you to go with Mailigen. Their deliverability rates are acceptable.
